We are a rock and roll band from Richmond Virginia. We are a seven piece band that plays mainly classic rock covers and our own originals. See our Covers page to give you an idea of the bands we cover. The band has been in existence for over 20 years now.

We actually started off as a band called "The Big Dogs" with Eddie, Will, Mike and Tommy. We started to write our own material and realized we needed one more thing to make our band complete, keyboards! Enter Steve...Once Steve joined the band, our musical diversity evolved even more with influence of Steely Dan, the Grateful Dead and Little Feat which sent me through the roof since that is one of my favorite bands.

Eddie thought it made sense to rename the band and the rest of us agreed so that was how Focal Point was born! We played out for a while and Tommy soon left the band to pursue other opportunities. So we scrambled for a bass player and eventually brought in Bruce to do the job. We also needed a sound man (since we just purchased our new Mackie 24 sound board) and brought in Kent to run that for us.

Bruce and Kent moved on to other pursuits and once again we were stuck with no bass player, so we just jammed once and a while to keep something going. We all pursued other things, I was coaching football for my son's team and Eddie was playing on billiard teams while Steve kept busy kayaking and Mike running his dojo while also becoming quite the Jazz guitarist. So at that time, we were sort of in a holding pattern...

I had coached a kid who kept telling me that his dad was a guitar player and was looking for someone to jam with. So at one of our impromptu jam sessions enter George.  My neighbor was just starting out on guitar so enters Wayne. But our problem remained that we had no bass player. Wayne said, "hey, I know a guy who plays bass and I think he would be perfect fit for the band". Enter Paul and now we were back in business!

The only thing missing was a sound guy, we landed Rob Rossi to handle that for us (as well as security) so once again, Focal Point was alive and well! Since we had four guitar players, Wayne picked up very quickly on percussion and we were set. I also have a friend of mine from work, Steve Hart, helping out on filming, recording and helping Rob with sound.

So the band is now complete and better than ever. Our past players are our alumni, they are and will always be a part of our family. We are a very close family of friends and not many bands can say that! We are very fortunate in that regard. But our current line up really makes Focal Point shine and it shows in our music. Also, from time to time, my son Matt will join us on stage as a drummer, so its truly a family affair. Matt should be back with us soon!

Lastly, let me say that we all love the women in our lives very much for letting us do what we love to do, play music. So thanks Debbie, Christine, Aimee, Sandy, Lynn, Vonnie, and Chris, we love ya big time!
